BRIEF ON Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department 2015
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department was established in the Ministry in 2011. The Department came into being in line with the President's approval, 2006, for the establishment of ICT Departments in six pilot Ministries including the Federal Ministry of Education. This is to ensure effective development and deployment of ICT in the country.
The Department drives the delivery of innovative technology solutions and support services towards ensuring that all departments within the FME are able to leverage modern ICT resources to optimize their respective functions. It also serves as an ICT co-ordination resource for the education sector at large, ensuring development of uniform standards and skills acquisition.
VISION To become the hub for the stimulation of development of IT Education and deployment of ICT in teaching, learning and educational administration towards the production of requisite human capital for sustainable national development and global competitiveness.
MISSION Improving educational outcomes, using the best breed of technologies to deliver educational-related materials and solutions for the enhancement of educational administration, knowledge and performance of learners, and access to education and information.
MANDATE: • Give policy direction on the development and deployment of ICT in education. • Develop strategic plans, guidelines and strategies for implementation of ICT in education. • Set minimum standards on ICT in education and monitor compliance. • Establish and maintain the converged education sector database. • Coordinate the development and deployment of ICT in education. • Develop ICT capacity and stimulate interest on ICT among staff and students. • Review, enhance and manage partnerships on ICT in Education. • Develop and coordinate e-learning plans, process and strategies including development of content. • Develop training guides and information manuals for use by all levels of staff and stakeholders. • Carry out and coordinate ICT training for all categories of staff and students. • Provide, secure and maintain all ICT hardware and software. • Support and maintain all ICT infrastructure. • Create visibility for the sector through development and maintenance of websites and portals.
STRUCTURE The Department has two Divisions and six Branches currently manned by twenty one (21) staff.
